The article considers the phenomenon and features of biennial culture in the modern art process, its increasing popularity, the specifics of curatorial work at the biennale. The subject of the article is the analysis of the ratio between “the centre” and “the periphery”, along with the general increase in the number of biennials, it is noted that peripheral cities are catching up with the “centres”. The biennial as an actual form of an art exhibition in the era of globalization is largely revising the familiar map of the art world, tracing the routes of an artistic thought and changing the concepts of what is “the centre” and what is “the periphery”.
