The country of Golgotha: art historiosophy of Russia in the poetry and prose of Russian emigrant authors

The basic objective of the article is to reveal how the image and fate of Russia are represented in the work of those emigrant writers who realized the Orthodox worldview in their art practice. The works of B. Zaytsev, I. Shmelev, L. Zurov, V. Volgin, A. Gessen, S. Bekhteev, I. Savin were selected for analysis. The following aspects of the writers’ artistic and religious thought are considered: the metaphysical roots of evil, the origins of the Russian disaster, the meaning of the sorrows and sufferings of Russia, the future of the country, the possibility and conditions of its revival. The analysis of texts allowed to identify the common and different in the artists’ historical and philosophical views. The ancient mythology of Russian historical consciousness, “City of Kitezh”, is updated in their books. All the authors mentioned above had a strong belief in the indestructibility of the spiritual core of “Sacred Russia” - the country which will again reveal itself to the world in future and will be revived as an Orthodox Power.
