The article tells about the problems of maintenance of quality and safety of food production and about negative tendencies of last time in sphere of population feed. The basic directions of government activity are characterized and the data of analysis of «Norms of physiological needs for energy and food substances for various groups of the population of the Russian Federation», authorized on December 18, 2008, in comparison with the Norms of the 1991 which has revealed the arisen interest of the state to optimization of the newest fundamental and the applied researches in the field of a science about a feed and updating of normative values is given.
