The article highlights the results of a study on the mental-health struggles of modern schoolchildren. The aim is to identify current problems in male and female youths' communication with significant other participants in unregulated interactions. With the help of test standardized methods, standardized questionnaires adapted for the study, primary material was collected reflecting the essential characteristics of unregulated high school communication. The sample of the study was 378 people. The main findings were unique evidence of a serious gap between students' need to communicate and their actual satisfaction of that need in interaction with significant others. The information gained in the process is relevant to the current state of youth communication. The results of the study formed the basis of recommendations that allow psychologists to build optimal interactions with family systems and the educational community in order to optimize communication among high school students. The results obtained will be useful to a specialist working with families, high school students and all interested people.
