This article is a review of the monograph “Chinese Biblical Studies under Construction: Origins of Innovation in Chinese Theology,” published as part of the book series “The Bible and Social Life.” The series seeks to build bridges between the Bible, the Church, and the social world, and to popularize the Bible by introducing biblical truths into the lives of individuals, groups, and society. The author of the monograph is Liu Ping, Professor of Religious Studies, Department of Philosophy, Fudan University. He believes that Hanyu (Chinese) Biblical Studies is a significant interdisciplinary specialty based on the study of Eastern classics. Also, Chinese Biblical Studies have a strong potential to become an integral part of university education and academic research in mainland China, and to make its own unique contribution to the development of the Church, theological community, and society. In addition, Hanyu Biblical Studies can contribute to the dialogue between three schools of thought in the 21st century: Marxism, Western thought, and Chinese studies.
