Identity as self-identity: individual variations of the value of completeness, development and social recognition of identity. Part 1

This research is aimed at showing up the role of a person’s appreciation of the importance and attainment of completeness, development and social recognition of one’s own identity in a positive emotional tinge, frequency of thoughts about the importance and social recognition of particular identifications (answers to the question “Who am I?”) and the connection of these values with psychological well-being and coping strategies. On the basis of two samples (143 students and 88 adults) it is shown up that the subjective importance of the completeness and development of identity at adolescent age may mediate the role of the attainment of completeness and identity development in the values of valency, significance and psychological centrality of some particular identifications, whereas at mature age the effects of importance and attainment are independent. Identity attainment values are linked to the subjective well-being that is most evident among adult subjects. The values of both identity importance, and its attainment are concerned with the specific peculiarities of coping strategies.
