The article deals with the biography of the German philosopher and theologian Ignatius Aurelius Fessler, who taught Philosophy and Oriental languages at St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Fessler introduced the course of non-scholastic philosophy into the list of subjects, first introduced the students to the philosophical system of Kant and other German philosophers. The followers of Fessler such as Horn, Kutnevich, Golubinsky and others introduced this methodology into the teaching system in the Moscow, Kiev and Kazan Theological Academies. Thus, to a certain extent, thanks to Fessler, Russian philosophy originates in St. Petersburg.
