Testing problems of modern Russian education are reviewed and analyzed: the lack of specially trained specialists, deficiency of theoretically substantiated tests and of teachers' and students' testing culture. The well-grounded conclusion about recurrent renunciation of testing and reiterated return to it in Russia is made.
