The empirical study of perception of using the tools of artificial intelligence in learning and teaching English at universities of the Russian Federation, unlike the previous works, identifies, systematizes the main barriers associated with the introduction of AI technologies and provides the innovative foundation for ensuring the methodology for the development of foreign language communicative competences. The integration of AI into the educational process is considered with an emphasis on the cognitive and linguodidactic aspects of teaching English with the use of qualitative and quantitative analysis, which allows us to identify and differentiate the problems that arise in the course of AI transformation in the field of teaching and learning English. The statistical analysis of the effectiveness of using AI tools in the process of teaching English provides evidence-based recommendations, which is an innovative contribution to the existing literature.
