The temptation of minimalism: reflections on a modern residential interior

The article is devoted to the study of the concept of minimalism in a modern residential interior. The subject of the study is minimalism as a lifestyle concept implemented in interior design. The research topic is the connection between minimalism and current trends in lifestyle. The purpose of the study is to identify both positive and controversial aspects of modern minimalism in interior design. The hypothesis of the study is that minimalism is closely related to the ideas of "conscious consumption", "simplification of life", eсo- design, as well as the concept of lifestyle in the era of the "fourth industrial revolution" and digitalization. Thanks to culturological and systemic approaches, the concept of minimalism has been considered in connection with social, economic and cultural processes in modern society. At the same time, minimalism is manifested not only in the rejection of "superfluous" things, but also in the popularity of the concept of coliving in the design of residential complexes - a minimal individual dwelling in combination with spacious public spaces. It was shown that minimalism does not solve all the problems of ecological design, because it is not focused on creating a diverse environment that embodies human individuality and preserves cultural traditions. In addition, minimalism does not correspond to the real aesthetic preferences of consumers and the traditional way of life, as well as changes in the preferences in the field of residential interior of both designers and consumers in the post-teen period. This topic undoubtedly requires further comprehensive study, which seems especially promising from the point of view of determining priorities in modern design education.
