Performance style of the high Don Cossacks: an articulator and acoustic code ( variants of the song «The cloud with thunder has thundered» taken as an example)

The article analyses the performance style of master-singers in two Cossack districts of the Volgograd region – Alexeevsky and Kumylzhensky. Taking a historical song «The Cloud with Thunder has Thundered» as an example the author attempts with the help of the articulatory and acoustic transcription and melody wave description to reveal typical and peculiar signs of the singing language of individual performers that create the unique and original color in the performance culture of the High Don Cossacks.
