Myasthenia is a neuromuscular autoimmune disease clinically characterized by pathological weakness and fatigability of voluntary musculature. In the middle of the XX century the connection was established between the disease and the thymus. When the thymus had been deleted, some patients felt improvements. The traumatic sternotomic surgical access limited the usage of the method. Implementation of the video-assisted thoracoscopy which is far less traumatic allowed to use thymectomy as a curing method for myasthenia. Evaluation of the video-assisted thoracoscopy effectiveness in accordance with clinical recommendations used for myasthenia research is a very pertinent problem now. When studying the progress of myasthenia before and after thymectomy the following parameters have been used: classification of myasthenia severity in accordance to MGFA; quantitative scale of the severity in accordance to QMGS, MG ADL questionnaire of influence, which myasthenia has on everyday activity.
Vats thymectomy, thymoma, thymic hyperplasia, qmgs, mg adl, myasthenia
