Research of the cognitive activity of future engineers when learning mathematics

The introduction of a competence-based approach to the organization of college students education in modern Russia is aimed at stimulating their cognitive activity. Although numerous studies of this problem have a long history, its relevance is beyond any doubt. The present study deals with analysis of the level of cognitive activity of junior college students who study mathematics in the context of limited classroom studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the empirical research is to determine the level of students’ cognitive activity and identify personal characteristics corresponding to the level of their cognitive activity. The study used a modification of the questionnaire for studying the level of cognitive activity of students developed by B.K. Pashnev. As a result of the analysis of the empirical material, the author presents the characteristics of students with low, medium and high levels of cognitive activity.
