With the acceleration of urbanization, urban sculpture, as an important part of public art, plays an important role in conveying urban culture and enhancing the aesthetic level of residents. In the perspective of art education, urban sculpture is not only the material expression of urban culture, but also an effective tool for cultivating public artistic literacy and aesthetic cognition. Through observation and experience of urban sculpture, students can feel the relationship between art forms, materials and space more intuitively, thus stimulating their artistic creativity and aesthetic sensitivity. From the perspective of art education, this study explores the social functions and cultural values of modern Chinese urban sculptures, analyzes their potential for application in art teaching and their role in promoting students’ aesthetic education. By analyzing specific cases such as the sculpture group in Beijing’s Temple of Heaven Park and Guangzhou’s Five Sheep Sculpture, this paper explores how to cultivate students’ art appreciation and cultural cognition through these urban sculptures.
