The study of the relationship of empathy with main personality traits of future psychologists-consultants

The article deals with the problem of relationship of empathy with main personality traits of future psychologists-consultants. The presence of a developed ability to empathize is mandatory for specialists of this profession. The authors note that the importance of empathy for the effectiveness of the consultative and / or therapeutic process is very difficult to overestimate, since it is the mechanism of empathy that allows you to create a very special atmosphere in which maximum security is combined and at the same time the developing potential of psychological assistance. The article presents the results of a factor analysis of the indicators of empathy and the main personality traits of future psychologists-consultants (the method of main components), analyzes the features of the manifestation of the ability to empathize with undergraduates of different areas of professional training. A correlation was found between the indicators of empathy and such personality traits as sensitivity, sociability and emotional stability.
