The article is devoted to the justification of the innovative approach to the study of V.P. Astafiev's works by 5-9th formers. The proposed system is based on a conceptually significant motive of the struggle for life, which can be traced from the early to the mature works of the writer. The article provides the literary and methodological material, recommended for use by teachers and students of philological majors.
