The article deals with the shortage of time of first-year students. The paper shows the relevance of this problem for the pedagogical practice of higher educational institutions. The study reveals that the sub-sample of students with low self-organization of educational activity is quantitatively predominant. The research participants are characterized by low motivation for learning activity, instability of cognitive interests, low awareness of time management methods, and lack of components of activity regulation. The author identifies that time mismanagement includes the procrastination syndrome; computer games, chats, forums; TV, watching movies; non-observance of daily routine; lack of sleep; inability to deny other people; inconsistent actions; inability to focus on the problem for a long time. The involvement of students in the process of determining the factors that lead to significant loss of time allows them to reveal the inappropriate and inefficient use of time, release additional time and use it to implement the goals.
