The article presents the results of a study of certain toxicological properties of new feed additive “SelEsap”. Toxicological evaluation of “SelEsap” feed additive revealed that it was non-irritating to the skin and mucous membranes of eyes of Soviet Chinchilla rabbits. Further studies, conducted on Wistar white rats, focused on effect of the additive on embryonic and postembryonic development at various stages of pregnancy. The evaluation was conducted using modern reproductive diagnostic methods, including microscopy, vaginoscopy, smear analysis and general condition monitoring. Obtained data confirmed the safety of “SelEsap” additive at the studied doses (2000, 4000 and 6000 mg/kg), demonstrating the absence of embryotoxic and teratogenic properties. Furthermore, physiological norms of embryonic development were demonstrated by stable body weight gain in females throughout pregnancy, further confirming the beneficial effects of the additive. Consequently, “SelEsap” feed additive proved to be a safe component at doses up to 6000 mg/kg, having no negative impact on the course of pregnancy, intrauterine development of embryos or subsequent offspring at both the embryonic and postembryonic stages. Based on obtained data, it can be concluded that the new multicomponent feed additive fully complies with biological safety requirements and is recommended for use in poultry diets.
