The relevance of the research lies in the increasing attention to issues of intercultural communication, migration and the transformation of traditional values in the context of globalization. In the modern world, the processes of migration and cultural exchange are becoming more widespread, which leads to an increase in scientific interest in the problems of otherness, identity and perception of the "other" in the socio-cultural and linguistic space. The AUTRE concept (fr. − "other") occupies a central place in the paradigm of migration linguistics, since the attitude of society to this concept (to the "other") regulates the processes of categorization and self-identification of the individual and society. Based on the methods of lexicographic, component, definitional, conceptual, contextual, as well as theoretical research by scientists, it was possible to establish the semantic structure of the other's vocabulary, describe its synonymous and antonymic potential. At the first stage of the analysis, a lexicographic analysis is carried out in order to identify possible meanings. As part of the ongoing lexicographic analysis of the lexeme, it seems important to conduct an etymological analysis of the studied unit in order to “detect its original form, compressed to the main features of the content of history”. Electronic and printed dictionaries were used as the main sources: lalanguefrancaise (LLF), LeRobert (LR), LAROUSSE (LS), Reverso (RO), Cordial (CL), sensagent (ST), linternaute (LT), Usito (UO), Academie atilf (AA), as well as Le Petit Robert and Le Petit Larousse.
