Linguistic situation and language policy in the Republic of Buryatia at the present stage

The article analyzes the current language situation and language policy in the Republic of Buryatia. We have discussed the features of functional interaction of the two state languages of the republic - Russian and Buryat, the languages of indigenous peoples and the languages of other peoples living on the territory of Buryatia at the present stage. The article characterizes the key priorities of the language policy in the region, identifies its main subjects, the features of development of the political agenda, as well as the mechanisms for its implementation. We have presented regional laws and regulations in the field of language policy, analyzed the objectives of the state program of the Republic of Buryatia "Preservation and Development of the Buryat language in the Republic of Buryatia" for 2021-2030. The article considers the features of today's language policy in the field of education, the most pressing issues related to language education in the region, problems and prospects for their solution.
