The article is devoted to the analysis of ekphrasis of painting by Italian artist of the XVI century Correggio «Worship of the baby Christ» in the 44 chapter of the novel «The Portrait of a Lady» by Henry James. A change in perspective on the image of Henrietta Stackpole after the episode in question at the Uffizi Gallery is investigated. It is concluded that the perception of the painting allows the reader to see the heroine from an unexpected side and anticipates her decision to marry an Englishman.
