The article studies the process of social and educational rehabilitation of children with visual impairments in the conditions of a boarding school as an open social system. The theoretical substantiation of the rehabilitation model and its components is given. The model is based on the analysis of reasons hindering the adaptation and rehabilitation of visually impaired children. The given model of social work proceeds from the understanding of a human being as an integral personality interacting with the social sphere and having certain ideas about external world and about him/herself.
