The article examines «traces» of the detective fiction («le roman policier») in the novel «Pour que tu ne te perdes pas dans le quartier» (2014) by Patrick Modiano. The criminal motives and motives of the investigation are exposed in it. The article concludes about their functions in the novel, in particular, in the genre structure of metafiction («le roman du roman»).
