The article discusses the evolution of the idea of educational potential of a family at different stages of the country's history. The criterion of the separation of stages is the presence of certain set of methodological approaches to the support of family education in the open educational space. The authors discuss specific features of the public policy and educational practice addressing the problem of family’s educational resources support in the late XIX- early XXI centuries.
