On the history of medical faculty/institute of Buryat State University

The article describes the history of establishing and developing Medical Institute of Buryat State University. The faculty was created in the 1990s by reason of a shortage of medical personnel in the Republic of Buryatia. The founders of the faculty sought to create an educational program combining traditional medicine with modern technology. Despite initial resistance from the federal Ministry of Health, the university obtained permission to open a specialization of "General Medicine" in 1998, and later introduced new programs in pharmacy and postgraduate medical specializations. Institute continues to grow and develop, paying special attention to integrative medicine and scientific research. Today, institute is one of the leaders in the field of medical education and integrative medicine in the region, and its graduates are in great demand.
