The rapidly developing modern society and the improving demands of the labor market entail the need for appropriate professional education of future specialists. Success in achieving career goals depends primarily on the satisfaction of the position held, the degree of relationship between talent, abilities, inclinations and challenges of each specific profession. To achieve these aims it is necessary to form skills to choose a professional development path starting from the school stage of education. The problem of choosing and implementing a professional development path is positioned in modern conditions as the foundation of future success in professional activity.The article aims to examine the essential characteristics of professional development trajectory and its main forms of implementation in the system of general education, as well as the development of the author’s key ideas in the context of its formation. The basic approaches to understanding the professional development trajectory and its main components - educational autonomy and individual route of self-determination were described.
