On the problem of competence approach in assessing the language preparation of students

The article is an attempt to determine the importance of competence approach in assessing language preparation, as well as its influence on the whole system of assessment and control of the results of education. Competence approach can connect the requirements of "university and life", making it possible to assess the real, demanded product produced by a student instead of the abstract one. Competences are multifaceted and multistructural characteristics of the quality of students'' preparation, the assessment of which can not be fully standardized. The orientation of education towards the formation of key competences has a significant influence on the whole system of assessing and controlling the results of education. Increasing the objectiveness of testing and assessment and the resulting increase in their diagnostic character and motivational role have become the essential task of knowledge control organization.
