On the issue of the relationship between Lev Karsavin’s cosmology and the orthodox tradition

The article analyzes the relationship between the cosmology developed by Lev Karsavin and the Orthodox doctrine of creation. The authors summarize the opinions of church scholars about Karsavin’s cosmology and show how he understood his philosophy in the context of the Orthodox tradition. The article concludes that Karsavin’s metaphysics is more in line with the mystic-gnostic tradition, rather than Orthodox dogmatics. At the same time, it shares with church cosmology its aspiration to take a middle position between pantheism and dualism.
