Considering the issue of use of emoji in foreign language teaching

The issue of use of emoji in foreign language education is considered. The meaning of the concept “emoji” is revealed, there are enumerated the kinds and functions of these symbols. The examples of work with emoji, applied to English language teaching, are presented. It is suggested to use emoji for revealing pupils’ mood, discussion of conducted weekends and reflection at the end of lesson. There are described the techniques of use of emoji as warm-up activities, phonetic exercises, stimulus for defining the theme of lesson, reading and further discussion of texts with settings of emoji in place of words.
