Considering the specific features of functioning and translation of phraseological units in political discourse

The article deals with the functions and ways of translation of the phraseological units in the political discourse. The study is based on the examples of the modern speeches of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. There are defined the most frequent ways of translation and functional potential of the phraseological units in the political discourse.
