The problem of the correlation between the collective traditional and the individual artistic in contemporary folk art is considered. The specificity of creativity in folk art is considered on the material of the traditional ensemble of Yakut horse attire and patchwork mosaic work by the Yakut master A. N. Zvereva. The biographical method made it possible to determine the features and patterns of the mythmaking perception of the categories of space and timelessness as a continuing condition for the existence of an image in folk art. The methods of interpretation of the canonical and abstract image in modern patterns of folk sewing are substantiated. The theory of types of interpretation by E. Betti was used in order to study the relationship between the canon, variants and abstraction. The type of the unique technology of the Yakut sewing masters, which is of decisive importance in creating variants of the canonical ensemble and abstract image, is described fragmentarily. The traditional nature of the master’s work is studied, the mythological figurative system is considered in his interpretation of the semantics of the ornament in the organization of the compositional space in horse attire and patchwork mosaics. It is noted that the master’s work evolves from typical geometric forms (national rug, bedspread) to free asymmetric abstract compositions. It was revealed that in abstract forms the folk master retains the basic color of culture (chromatic code), its ornamental forms and the principle of ensemble. A. Zvereva is the initiator of the unification of the creative forces of the national craftsmen of the republic. Her contribution to the revival, preservation and popularization of the cultural heritage of the Yakut people, to the development of international cultural and scientific ties is invaluable. The work of A. Zvereva is a clear example of the conflicts and syntheses of tradition and innovation, within the framework of the canonical folk art of the Yakuts and modern abstract art.
