The article examines the role of artworks in A. Huxley's novel «After Many a Summer Dies the Swan» (1939), in particular, paintings by Rubens, El Greco and Vermeer in the context of interaction with the heroes of the novel - bearers of different life truths. All the characters of this novel are distributed at the poles of «true» and «false» in accordance with A. Huxley's «positive program» of this time. The pictures, introduced into the text, also appear to be bearers of certain «voices» and also positioned in accordance with poles of «true» and «false» (Rubens justifies the «false» world order; axiological identity of El Greco is ambivalent; Vermeer, positioned at the spatial periphery of the «false» world, is essentially alien to this world), thus becoming original characters of Huxley’s novel.
