In the lecture is presented a modern classification of anemias approved by the American Society of Hematology. The etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical presentation of microangiopathic and complement-associated hemolytic anemias are detailed. Modern methods of diagnosis, new approaches to treatment, and prevention of specific forms of hemolytic anemias are presented. A special emphasis is placed on the mechanisms of development and therapy of hemolytic anemia in patients with Moschcowitz's disease (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura), Markiafava- Micheli syndrome (paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria), Schönlein-Henoch syndrome (hemorrhagic vasculitis), as well as typical and atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome. The lecture will be of interest to an audience of hematologists, anesthesiologists, therapists, pediatricians, transfusion specialists who are enhancing their qualifications, as well as clinical residents and medical students.
