The work is based on the results of the examination and treatment of 44 patients with infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN): 16 patients with IPN complicated by parapancreatic phlegmon, 14 patients with IPN complicated by paracolic phlegmon, 14 patients with IPN complicated by total retroperitoneal phlegmon. The diagnosis of IPN was established on the basis of clinical and laboratory data, as well as the results of radiation methods. Concentrations of volatile fatty acids (VFA) were analyzed: acetic, propionic, butyric and isovaleric in the blood by the chromatographic method. Indicators of acetic acid, propionic acid and the sum of VFA can be used as additional criteria for the differential diagnosis of IPN complicated by parapancreatic phlegmon and IPN complicated by paracolic phlegmon. Indicators of acetic, propionic and butyric acids, the amount of VFA can be used as additional criteria for the differential diagnosis of IPN, complicated by parapancreatic phlegmon, and IPN, complicated by total retroperitoneal phlegmon. Indicators of acetic, butyric acids and the sum of VFAs can be used as additional criteria for the differential diagnosis of IPN, complicated by paracolic phlegmon, and IPN, complicated by total retroperitoneal phlegmon.
