The work is based on the results of examination and treatment of 34 patients: 23 patients with infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) and 11 patients with sterile pancreatic necrosis (SPN). The concentrations of volatile fatty acids (VFA): acetic, propionic, butyric, and isovaleric acids were analyzed in the blood by chromatographic method. The indicators of acetic, propionic, butyric, isovaleric acids and the amount of VFA are statistically significantly higher, and the anaerobic index is statistically significantly lower in patients with IPN compared with the rates of VFA in patients with SPN. The parameters of VFA are informative criteria for differential diagnosis of IPN and SPN. The informative value of the parameters of VFA for differential diagnosis of IPN and SPN does not depend on the sex of patients.
