Reconstructing the image of ‘the person of work’ in the Khanty language: cognitive aspects

Introduction. The article investigates how the results of human cognitive activities aimed at self-knowledge are revealed in the language. The purpose of the article is to identify cognitive aspects of reconstructing the ‘the person of work’ image in the Khanty language. Materials and Methods. The research data include the Khanty language dictionaries, samples of informal speech and fictional extracts. The author uses the descriptive method. Results. The study reveals the linguistic principles of creating the image of ‘the person of work’ in the Khanty language. These principles include: lexical-semantic word-building as a natural means of categorization and creating semantic and structural correlations between text units according to the author’s intention. It is proved that nomination models and characteristics of ‘the person of work’ in the Khanty language are determined by the results of cognitive activity of the Khanty. The ethnic consciousness contains the following prototype: ‘the person of work’ is active, mobile, and closely linked with the particular object and place. Conclusions. The author has revealed lexical and constructive units generalizing the idea of the person occupied with productive work in the Khanty language. The functionality and pragmatism of the means expressing the idea of ‘people of work’ are clarified.
