The paper analyzes comparative phraseological units and associated composites in the Old High German and Middle High German periods of the development of the German language. The authors aim to identify the moments of the external world, the characteristics of persons, objects, processes and phenomena that are reflecting by means of the comparative phraseological units the linguistic view of the world of people who lived in the Middle Ages in the Old High and the Middle High German linguistic area.
