Communicative skills as indicator of successful socialization of adolescents

The general education school is an important institution for the socialization of adolescents, where both formal and informal interactions take place. This article addresses the issues of empirical diagnostics of the communicative aspect of adolescent socialization. The research aims to characterize the communicative skills of adolescents as an indicator of their successful socialization. To achieve this aim, the authors identified the structure of communicative skills in adolescents and conducted their empirical diagnostics. The structure of communicative skills was revealed based on the study of theoretical concepts of socialization from sociological and psychological perspectives. The authors surveyed 200 students from secondary general education schools in Chelyabinsk. To diagnose the formation of communicative skills the authors developed indicators characterizing relationships with others. The generalization of the communicative aspect of socialization was achieved by assessing how easily and comfortably individuals communicate with various subjects. The authors developed a classification of comfort in family relationships and a classification of the ease of interaction with different categories of communication subjects. Both classifications correlate with the self-image of oneself in one’s own eyes and in the eyes of others, as well as with self-assessment of relationships from the perspective of others, which are considered aspects of an adolescent’s self-evaluation. A connection was identified between the aforementioned classifications and other indicators of the formation of communicative skills highlighted in this study. The results of the research indicate the necessity to consider the atmosphere in students' families and the need for fostering constructive relationships in the classroom, which in turn contributes to more effective interaction and the formation of higher self-esteem among students.
