A comparative analysis of the ecology discipline content in Russian and American universities

This article presents results of a comparative analysis both of the Ecology discipline content and its teaching experience in Russian and American universities. This analysis is carried out based on the most important components and characteristics of the educational process (goals and criteria of the Ecology students’ learning quality, the Ecology discipline content, the course specifics, and learning difficulties). Recommendations to improve ecological education at the graduate level are given. Conclusion: 1) In practice of the Russian higher education institutions of the purpose of ecological education are more universal, covering all spheres of professional activity of the university graduate while in the American higher education institutions orientation more pragmatic, narrow, on a certain subject domain. In too time of one of the purposes of teaching ecological discipline the vykrabotka at students of analytical approach to ecology is specified in the American universities that helps to analyze and to objectively assess real ecological situations which arise in everyday life and with kotokry graduates should face both as experts, and as consumers. 2) In the Russian higher education institutions more attention is paid to discussion of problems on environment protection, and in the American higher education institutions study interrelation of living beings in ecosystems in more detail, as well as interrelation of the person with these systems that leads to complete idea of the studied subject. 3) The number of the hours allotted on studying of discipline both in Russian and in the American higher education institutions has big scope, depending on the objects set by educational programkma though on their quality exerts impact the practical training including role-playing games, excursions in real environment and also on the enterprises polluting it for a povyksheniye of interest of students in ecology so and to their ecological awareness and an otvetstvenknost for her state more.
