This article is devoted to the contacts of the Catholic Church with representatives of the clergy of the Syrian Church of the East and Nestorian communities of the Genghisid states in the second half of the 13th - first half of the 14th century. The author analyzes the information of the Dominican and Franciscan missionaries about contacts with Nestorians of the Ilkhanate, the Yuan Empire and the Jochi Ulus. The article examines the political conditions that contributed to strengthening the ties of the Roman Church with Eastern Christians living in the territories of the Genghisid states. Based on the analysis of information from Catholic and Nestorian sources, it is concluded that these contacts in some cases could have been peaceful, in others there were conflict situations. The method of analogy allowed the author to draw conclusions about the role of the Second Council of Lyon in activating the missionary activity of Catholic orders among Nestorians and the degree of success of their preaching. The interdisciplinary approach helped to examine the information of Ricoldo da Montecroce’s writings on Eastern Syrian Christians from the point of view of religious imagology.
