Corruption: perception and assessment in the public consciousness of the dagestani population (based on the results of a sociological survey)

The problem of corruption does not lose its relevance and, apparently, will be the subject of research for several decades for a number of objective and subjective reasons. The article analyzes the perception and assessment of corruption as a destructive social phenomenon that has a negative impact on the economic development of the state, its national security and the social well-being of the population. Based on the author's sociological research, the dominance of corruption as «bribery» and «using official position for personal, selfish interests» in the public consciousness of the Dagestani population has been established. The respondents see the root of corruption in the unresolved complex of important issues of a socio-economic, political and legal nature, contributing to the commission of corrupt acts. The lack of transparency in the activities of government authorities, and sometimes the involvement of law enforcement officials in corrupt activities, as well as institutional trust, contribute to the emergence of corrupt relationships.
