In article the main directions of development and a problem of the Soviet public catering which for the 1970th - passed the 1980th years a way from the "Thaw" take-off to full disorder are considered. The author considers those circumstances which didn’t allow perspective branch of a national economy to develop and become a reliable support to national economy and a place where people productively would spend the leisure-time.
