The authors assess the state of pre-University training of foreign students and substantiate the need to accelerate the processes of linguistic and socio-cultural adaptation as important criteria for the effective assimilation of language and culture, and successful preparation for studying in Russian universities in Russian. In this regard, the authors consider the cultural-oriented approach which means including elements of culture in the content of the studied subjects (Russian language, physics, mathematics, chemistry, etc.). Elements of culture mean information about traditions, values, and norms of behavior, facts and ideas inherent in the non-native culture of the listener, as one of the effective factors of socio-cultural integration into a foreign language environment. The introduction of a culture-oriented approach to the practice of teaching allows foreign students to fully and harmoniously acquaint with a non-native culture, expanding the horizons of the student's own culture, developing an attitude to openness to the knowledge of foreign language culture and the assignment of new subject knowledge within a variety of professional contexts (humanitarian, political, economic, etc.).
