The basis of this article is to reveal the issue of Mikhail Bakhtin's contribution to the comprehension of culture as a holistic phenomenon and a multidimensional "metatext". The article focuses on the fact that the problems of culture were considered by M.M. Bakhtin in conjunction with the ontological, aesthetic and axiological approaches with the existential anthropological aspect of the centuries old experience of cognition and the author's re ection of the picture of the world and the concept of human. Thanks to this conjugation, M.M. Bakhtin created the concepts of a dialogue of cultures, a "laughter" culture, as well as a set of issues related to carnival as a socio cultural tradition. In addition, the culturological potential of Bakhtin's scienti c heritage is conditioned, according to the author of the article, by the deep development of the problem of individual creativity through the prism of the "philosophy of the act". The noted moments of "increase" in culturological knowledge are inseparable from the innovative approach of M.M. Bakhtin to the methodology of the humanities in general, including the categorical conceptual aspect of research activity. Taking into account the heuristic nature of Bakhtin's terminology, the article presents those elements of the conceptual sphere of the original thinker that contribute as a speci c factor to a deeper understand ing of the "dialogical nature" of culture as an "open unity" (Bakhtin) and the sphere of creative actualization of the personality of the Author of the text (scienti c or artistic).
