This article focuses on the analysis of the usage of the lexeme ּדִים ּקו ִפ in the Masoretic Text and its translation in the Septuagint, Elizabethan Bible, and the Psalter of Archbishop Ambrose (Zertis-Kamensky), a translation from Ancient Hebrew performed in the second half of the 18th century. This translation had not been explored until recently, and its history is briefly introduced in the introduction. The aim of the article is to analyze the theological and philological reasons for variations between the Greek and Slavic texts and the translation of Archbishop Ambrose, as well as to identify possible sources that influenced it. The analysis of variations between all these texts reveals that Archbishop Ambrose’s translation is clear and does not provide grounds for misunderstanding, unlike the Septuagint and the Elizabethan Bible. The primary source for Archbishop Ambrose was Buxtorf’s dictionary. Additionally, this Psalter, the Greek text, and the traditional Slavic texts are compared with the patristic and medieval theological traditions of interpretation. In this case, there is no similarity between all these interpreters and the translation discussed in the article since they do not pay attention to the terms used to translate the analyzed lexeme. To determine the relationship of the examined work to subsequent scholarly traditions of interpretation, an analysis of comments from domestic pre-revolutionary and Western academic exegetes is conducted. They also interpret the examined verses of the Psalms in a generalized manner, so there are no parallels with the translation discussed in the article.
