Personal characteristics of students with different indicators based on the results of psychological measurement of lies and mendacity

The article discusses the concepts of lies and mendacity, focusing on their negative social meaning, and paying attention to socially approved and disapproved types of lies. A lie is understood as a fact of conscious, deliberate distortion of the truth, expressed in words or actions, and mendacity is a personality trait that tends to emotionally charged acts of silence and distortion of relevant information. The article discusses the contradiction between the insufficient study of the phenomenon of lies among students, which manifests itself as a personal trait, and the demand for adequately educated specialists in society in accordance with the Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation”. It follows from this that there is a socially significant problem of diagnosing mendacity with determining the scale of its spread in society. The work puts forward a hypothesis about the existence of differences in the severity of the characteristics of personal traits in students with high and low rates according to the results of psychodiagnostics of lies and mendacity. Therefore, the aim of the study was a comparative study of the personal characteristics of university students with high and low rates of lying and mendacity, which made it possible to describe these characteristics in the form of corresponding generalized personality portraits.
