Personality traits of students prone to making errors due to irrational attitudes and cognitive distortions

The concept of “error” is analyzed, the propensity to make errors is considered as an attitude that has a level organization proposed by A.G. Asmolov and includes semantic, target and operational attitudes. Society's interest in timely identification of people prone to erroneous behavior, as well as subsequent development of approaches to its prevention and correction is discussed. University students are considered as a social group under pressure of socio-economic, political and spiritual and moral relations in society, which cause the emergence of thinking errors. For this reason, they were the respondents in the research conducted. The study aims at assessing the personality traits of university students prone to making errors due to irrational attitudes and cognitive distortions. The hypothesis of the study is to assume the existence of differences in the degree of manifestation of personality traits in the students with and without the propensity described above. The study involved 157 full-time university students aged 18 to 23. A comparative analysis of personality traits showed that students prone to erroneous actions had an increased level of search for arousal and a decrease in such indicators as aesthetics, feelings, ideas, values, openness to experience, honesty, cooperation and obedience to duty, which confirms the hypothesis of the study.
