Linguodidactic potential of the project method in developing lexical competence of students at a non-linguistic higher education institution

The article deals with the issue of applying the project method in the course of a foreign (English) language for specific purposes (ESP). The paper presents the experience of organizing project activities for the students of a non-linguistic educational organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation as part of studying one of the key topics. The development of foreign language lexical competence is considered as one of the most important directions for improving the quality of students' language training. The main characteristics of the project methodology in the context of teaching a foreign language for specific purposes are highlighted. The article reveals a significant linguodidactic potential of the method under consideration to ensure a high level of lexical competence development, provided that the necessary sequence of the development stages and organization of mastering lexical materials is ensured on the basis of interdisciplinary integration and taking into account the educational and cognitive interests of students. The use of the project methodology also made it possible to significantly increase the cognitive interest and motivation of students at different stages of the project.
