The article deals with the potential of the solving of the mathematical problems on a chessboard in the development of the cognitive universal learning skills of younger schoolchildren and the positive motivation to teaching of the chess basis. There are demonstrated the examples of the case studies and the mathematical problems on a chessboard providing the development of the logical, spatial and strategic thinking of students and the development of the ability to act in mind.
