Metaphors of personal "friend" and "foe" as predictors of "hate speech"

The article touches upon a problem of cognitive factors of "discrimination" and "hate speech" phenomena. The research object is to discover how personal "friend" and "foe" metaphors and ideas influence acceptance of discrimination toward other people. It is concluded that that acceptance of discriminating behaviour of communication partners, significance of similarities and differences with "friends" and "foes" polarize categorization of other people, perception of "friends" and "enemies", they increase attribution of negative qualities to "foes" more than positive ones to "friends." The obtained results can be used in social and psychological counseling, in resolution of applied problems of the psychology of conflict, development of tolerance training programs.
